The Free Sea

Trauma is when your home ceases to exist. Using a collage of documentary and artistic intervention, these four artists and scholars confront the catastrophe of global warming as the rising sea literally dissolves the Maldives and, subsequently, those lives that are lived upon them.

Laura McLean

Laura McLean is a curator, artist, and writer based in London. She is a graduate of Goldsmiths College and Sydney College of the Arts, where she later lectured. She has also studied at Alberta College of Art and Design, and the Universität der Künste Berlin. Past curatorial projects include the Contingent Movements Archive and Symposium, conceived for the Maldives Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale, and Crisis Complex, an exhibition and series of events held at Tin Sheds Gallery, Sydney. Her research focuses on the ontological and geo-political repercussions of the Anthropocene era, and how these paradigm shifts correspond to processes engaged by contemporary artists in their work.
